You should expect an irrepressible mixture of comedy and accomplished dance.
Some of the comedy took the form of slapstick, some arose out of prima donna-like or girlish behaviour taken to extremes, and then there was the incongruity of gruff masculinity (fisticuffs and the like) when placed beside it. No tantrums or stamping of feet, though. Perhaps next time.
The thing that’s easy to overlook, amid all the guffaws and laughter and occasional animal noises coming from the audience, is how technically proficient these dancers are. True, they are blokes who like their jokes – and the white swan may go to her death snarling and gnashing her dainty white teeth, seething inside and no doubt asking, ‘Why me?’ – but when it comes to dancing on point (and such) they deliver.
And the four pieces they performed here, which included act two of Swan Lake, showcased their considerable talents to perfection. Irresistible.
