He began while still at school, a teenager in the ‘60s, and he is on the road even now, and going strong.

If anyone can be said to measure up to the ‘living legend’ tag, Steve Winwood is your man.  He does so in spades.  He has as much music in him as anyone now living; he’s left a legacy that’s sure to endure.

The concert began with ‘I’m a Man’ and after that the classic songs – ‘Dear Mr. Fantasy’, ‘Higher Love’, ‘Can’t Find My Way Home’ et al – just kept on coming.  The set included songs from every period of Winwood’s career and at the end we had come full circle almost, closing with another Spencer Davis Group song, ‘Gimme Some Lovin’.  It had the crowd on their feet, clapping and dancing, some singing along.

You were always going to go home wishing there had been more songs, simply because Winwood’s catalogue is so rich, but (being reasonable for a moment) this was a terrific concert.  Winwood’s musicianship is beyond compare and the band were superb as well, by the way: a lean and mean outfit.

Steve Winwood is touring the UK at the minute, details can be found here.
