The bassoon is a beautiful instrument, best likened to a fantastic animal.
It is as curious as a chimera, a sphinx or a centaur. In appearance and sound too, a fabulist’s fancy.
Alejandra Rojas clearly has an intimate knowledge of its myriad mysteries, and here she shared some of them.
On any reckoning, this was a spectacular concert. As Rojas evoked the rich melodies of Vivaldi’s ‘La Notte’, the pinnacle on an evening where each performance was a highlight, you had one of those rare experiences, an amalgam of astonishment, joy and gratitude. How could such beauty exist in the world and you not be aware of it?
