An intimate showcase of some of the Camerata’s classy musicians.

The concert opened and closed with a Bach suite for solo cello, both performed by Hannah Roberts who was wonderful throughout.  Baroque flavours predominated but didn’t quite overwhelm.  Laura Bowler’s new work, Pleasurable, certainly lived up to its name while her sparkly shoes, most likely designed by Christian Louboutin – there was a brief flash of red soles – were very elegant too.   For Halvorsen’s Passacaglia, Hannah Roberts was joined by Adi Brett on violin, and this was definitely my favourite performance of the night.  It’s simply such a gorgeous piece of music.

Seeing these excellent musicians at close quarters, in the round at the Royal Exchange, you cannot help but appreciate them all the more.
