Mar del Plata
Directed by Ionathan Klajman and Sebastián Dietsch
Cornerhouse, 16 March 2014
A comedy with a carload of Woody Allen-like flourishes.
Talking directly to camera. Flashbacks to childhood and early life. Abrasive social encounters.
The set-up too is pure Allen: two guys, their friendship long standing yet pretty precarious, have problems with the women in their lives.
Not that this Woody Allen influence is by any means a bad thing, for the film is immensely engaging and entertaining right up until the close.
Mar del Plata is showing again on Saturday the 22nd and is part of Viva, the Spanish and Latin American Film Festival.
