Kang Wang

Carole Nash Recital Room, RNCM

30 April 2014

Kang Wang

Proximity is privilege.

It is a thought that often occurs to me when attending concerts in the Carole Nash Recital Room, never more insistently than when listening to this recital by Kang Wang.  It was the third time I’d seen the tenor in the past year or a little less, previous occasions being in A Child Of Our Time and L’Elisir d’Amore.  His wonderful performance of ‘Una furtiva lagrima’ still lives in the memory, still delights.

Close up, you are more aware of what a powerful and passionate instrument the tenor voice can be.  Yet Kang Wang himself was utterly relaxed throughout, whether singing intense German Lieder or sunny Italian arias.

A beautiful concert, a happy occasion.
