Last Man Standing
The Lowry,15 May 2014
A beguiling combination of ballet and breakdancing, the ornamental and the demotic.
It is the energy of the music that strikes you at the start, a suite of songs by a band called Tool. The dance, a journey of loss and redemption that draws inspiration from the twin sources of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice and Terry Pratchettt’s The Last Hero (an unlikely coupling, you may think), does full justice to it. Super-slick, you look at an encoiling engine of motion and emotion, seemingly unending.
This is the future of dance, one of them at any rate.
