Benedetti Plays Vivaldi
Nicola Benedetti and Manchester Camerata
The Bridgewater Hall, 20 September 2014
This evening of exceptionally fine music was a wonderful way for Manchester Camerata to begin their new season.
Nicola Benedetti joined the orchestra for The Four Season’s and Vivaldi’s Concerto in F. The two works by Vivaldi were framed by Pärt’s Silouan’s Song – slow and sincere, as glorious as a Byzantine icon – and Mozart’s thirty-sixth symphony, composed in Linz over a period of about a week. There were charming introductions by the conductor, Gábor Takács-Nagy, something we now always look forward to.
Benedetti also joined children from primary schools in Telford and Stoke on stage for the first performance of their concert beforehand. How wonderful they were too, and how valuable the work that Manchester Camerata and In Harmony do in teaching music in schools.
A splendid concert, serving not least as a delightful harbinger of what is to follow. Details of Manchester Camerata’s future concerts can be found here.
