This is the film you see advertised on the side of all the buses.

Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone dancing and alongside them a background of blue sky and golden stars, like in the EU flag. Brexit is everywhere, for those with eyes to see…

La La Land is a musical with songs and dancing, humour and romance, and it has quite an interesting theme and all: artistic integrity. Artists are the most important people in the world, according to that Obrist guy, because they take risks and challenge the status quo; they move the world forward a little ways. Yet all artists need an audience – otherwise, well, what is the point? And they need to eat as well. That means they have to haul their lambs to market, which in turn means (or may mean) compromise.

The film explores these issues in a stylish, graceful and entertaining way. For one thing, it has tap dancing.
