"Clash”/

In this excellent Egyptian film, the back of an army van becomes the storm-tossed ship of state.

The van holds members of the Muslim Brotherhood, along with those protesters dead set against them and a few stray citizens, all rounded up by the army on a day of demonstrations and clashes . These people share the same space and we gradually come to see what unites and divides them. If I have one slight complaint it is that no one changes, not really; there are no conversions to Islam, no apostates.

It is a neat conceit to limit the action to what happens in and what can be seen from the van, though this sort of constraint has been seen before in cinema.

Anyway, a film well deserving of an attentive watch.
